Dr. Farhat Ajmal
The President, Executive Committee, members and Staff of Behbud Association Karachi are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Dr. Farhat Ajmal (Farhat Apa) — an icon of our Health Department.
Dr. Farhat Ajmal was the visionary and driving force behind Behbud’s very successful TB DOTS Program. She spent 25 plus years working on the TB project.
With remarkable foresight and dedication, she established two TB clinics in Clifton and Mehmoodabad in the early 2000s and also initiated the TB Mobile Van project.
She was recognised for her remarkable achievements in diagnosing and controlling TB, achieving, an outstanding 95% cure rate.
She headed the Committee for Oversight of the Sindh TB Control Program for all of Karachi
Her tireless efforts also resulted in securing a donation from the Japanese Government (GGP) for a separate building for the TB project in our Clifton premises.
She established an X-ray room — a milestone that continues to benefit countless patients.
However Farhat apa’s efforts were not limited to only TB, she was responsible for acquiring a new dental chair for the dental clinic in Behbud.
A true Behbudian in spirit, she embodied commitment, compassion, and service. Her exemplary work set a high standard for all who followed, and she remains an inspiration to the Behbud community.
She will be missed by all!
