Story Telling Session
Story telling for Climate Action
“*Weaving Waves*”is an upcycling project by Behbud Association Karachi in collaboration with artists Miro Craemer and Hira Khan. In 2024, Craemer and Khan visited the Behbud Association, working closely with the team as part of their research project, “Mindful Threads, PIECES” (Sustainability, Ecology, and Fairness in Art through intercultural exchange).
“Weaving Waves” comes as a project born of necessity due to the global climate crisis, a phenomenon that is relatable in every part of the world.
By upcycling leftover materials from the vocational centre at the Behbud Association. Through the lens of “water,” specifically urban flooding and the havoc it creates, this collaboration focuses on the younger generations who are most affected by the climate crisis. Through the art of storytelling, a combination of art and crafts, “Weaving Waves” hopes to establish greater awareness of the topic and the work Behbud does.
As part of “Weaving Waves,” the project has invited Romana Husain, an artist, educator, and author of several children’s books, to the Behbud Association Karachi for a reading of her book, “Rani and the Floods.” The story describes Rani’s courage and hope when disaster strikes her village, family, and home. The school children at Behbud are invited to interpret the narrative through drawings and illustrations.
